This week, we’re talking about all things Whitehall, so that you can see why we love it so much, and how this could be the perfect venue for your special day.

History

Built on over 130 acres of land, Whitehall sits along the banks of Meredith Creek, Whitehall Creek, and Whitehall Bay. Designed by the same architect who designed the Maryland State Capitol in Annapolis, the house is heralded as one of the finest examples of Palladian architecture in the country.

Time to brush up on your American history: do you know who the last Provincial Governor of Maryland was? You might be wondering what this piece of Americana has to do with wedding venues, but bear with me…Whitehall was originally built to be the official residence of Governor Horatio Sharpe, the last Provincial Governor of Maryland! Prior to the start of the American Revolution, Governor Sharpe bought the land and had the majestic manor built to be his residence. He sold Whitehall after the Revolution began, and the house was privately owned by several different families over the years, including one family that owned it for 116 years!

Today, the house is a designated historic site in Maryland and is managed by a non-profit foundation that works to preserve the house and its grounds. It has become one of the most coveted wedding venues in the area, thanks to the backdrop of the gorgeous historic manor, the stunning waterfront, and the quiet, secluded area.

Since the house is a designated historic site, guests aren’t allowed to be inside the house. But, with over 130 acres of land, there’s no shortage of space outside for tents, wedding ceremonies, and celebrations.
